# Get Started with Looking Glass Portrait

Set up your Looking Glass

Looking Glass Portrait has two primary modes you can use the device in. Standalone Mode, and Desktop Mode. We'll walk you through that and more in the videos below!

### What's in the Box? 📦

When you unbox your Looking Glass, you'll find a few extra items along with the Portrait itself. These include:

* 1x USB-C Power Adapter
* 1x USB-C Cable
* 1x HDMI Cable
* 1x Microfiber Cleaning Cloth
* 1x Holographic Sticker ✨

### Setting up Desktop Mode

Desktop Mode allows you to use your Looking Glass with your Mac, Windows, or Linux computer and use software like [Looking Glass Studio](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/software/looking-glass-studio),  [Liteforms](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/software/experiments/liteforms) and [Blocks](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/software/looking-glass-blocks), as well as integrations with tools like [Blender](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/software/creator-tools/index-1), [Unity](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/software/index), [Unreal Engine](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/software/creator-tools/index), [WebXR](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/software/creator-tools/webxr) and [more](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/getting-started/portrait/broken-reference).&#x20;

### Adjusting Display Settings

In order to make sure your Looking Glass works correctly there are a few settings you'll need to change. Don't worry though, we'll walk you through it! ### Install Looking Glass Bridge

Download Looking Glass Bridge from our website [here](https://look.glass/bridge).&#x20;

Once you've got Looking Glass Bridge installed, run this test below and you should see a hologram appear on your display! For more information about Bridge check out our documentation [here](https://lfdocs.lookingglassfactory.com/software/looking-glass-bridge/using-looking-glass-bridge).

### Standalone Mode

In order to use Standalone Mode, you must use a USB-C to USB-C cable. \
\
A USB-A cable will not work to power the device in Standalone Mode.&#x20;

Plug the USB-C cable and power adapter into a power source, then into your Portrait. If the Portrait is receiving power you should see the status LED above the power button breathe white. Tap the power button to turn the device on. \

### Desktop Mode

**To use any software with your Looking Glass Portrait when connected to your computer, you'll need to install** [**Looking Glass Bridge**](https://lookingglassfactory.com/software/looking-glass-bridge)**.**

#### How to use Desktop Mode

Plug the HDMI cable into the Looking Glass and your computer. If the device is off you should see the status LED above the power button breathe blue. Tap the power button to turn the device on. You should then see your computer screen on your Looking Glass Portrait.&#x20;

### **Adapters & Cables**

There are a few requirements for desktop mode, make sure your computer can output a 4K video signal to HDMI. \
You can use adapters, like [**USB-C -> HDMI**](https://us.anker.com/products/a8312) and [**Display Port -> HDMI**](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1466901-REG/kramer_c_dpm_hm_uhd_6_displayport_m_to_hdmi.html) adapters.&#x20;
